VIDEO: Yoga Paradise – A Week At Kaliyoga, Spain

August 28, 2013
Kaliyoga

Thanks to the lovely people at Kaliyoga for the most wonderful week in which my eyes were undoubtedly opened. Since I’ve returned I feel like I’ve been living in technicolour. I tried to make this video complete so that you could sit back and enjoy without having to wade through a text blog entry afterwards explaining all the numbers and fun stuff. Sooo, have a watch and please pipe up with your thoughts and comments about yoga, wellness, exercise and diabetes and whether anything I’m jabbering about rings true with you as well. Maybe you aren’t diabetic and you use yoga as a way of keeping your head clear; I’d love to hear from you too! I knew I would enjoy this trip but I did not ever expect it to have such a lasting affect on my lifestyle. Intrigued? Let’s watch… xxx Follow my blog with Bloglovin

VIDEO: Navigating A Festival Abroad With Type 1

August 22, 2013
New York

Watch me first, read me second! Phew. Firstly, this video is obviously in massive antithesis to the zen-like wellness warrior I claim to have become of late as The Big Challenge approaches at a quite frankly FRIGHTENING rate (15 days, but I’m not counting). It just goes to show what can happen in a few short months! I barely recognise that girl; my face, my manner, everything seems a little different. Funny. Secondly, the numbers. So as ever we are ideally trying to keep between magical 4 and 9 to be deemed the good little diabetics we so desire to be, and spend every minute of every hour of every day trying to be. Sooo these yes, were a little on the high side. But only just, and for one day, when I’m on an island off an island having the time of my little, a little on the high side…

Packing For A Holiday With Type 1 | missjengrieves

Watch me first. Read me second… Ohhh another stuuuuupid video! Apparently you quite liked watching me running around getting drunk and being a general idiot (bar lunges, anyone?) so I thought I’d capture a bit more of my ridiculous existence. Being that it’s summer and given all the extra things we have to consider when venturing on holiday, I thought a packing video might be of use. Or at the very least, of mild bemusement (I’ll happily take that). Admittedly I made life difficult for myself by leaving EVERY SINGLE THING until the day before I flew, but there’s no fun in playing it safe now is there? Not that I really think you can call failing to register with a new GP living on the edge… As ever, those elusive numbers we’re aiming for on that tiny, seemingly unsuspecting meter that we live and die by are anywhere between…

Start Spreading the News

Etc etc… I’m in NEW YORK!!!! And I’m writing. It’s 30 degrees outside and I’m writing. HIYYYAAAAA. Oh my god it’s amazing. So bloody amazing. There are obvious type 1 related obstacles that I’m navigating every day – namely the food (HUGE. And immense) and the drink (LOTS) but I’m counteracting that with battering my poor already-battered feet with a rather ridiculous amount of walking, plus kiiiiiind of (but not always) avoiding the carbs. Plus the heat. JEEEEZ it’s hot.  Hot and wonderful. The flight wasn’t as bad as I anticipated – after the battering I took en route to Australia I thought it might KO me for the afternoon while the other girls excitedly headed to the first bar, but I’d learned my lesson last time it seems, and after dodging most of the carb-heavy plane food (which managed to actually resemble food this time – thank you British Airways), doing…

Type 1 Travels: Aeroplane Games

February 26, 2013
Cool, Calm and Collected.

G’dayyyy!!! Ok, so I might not have mentioned it but I went to Australia recently. On Christmas Day. Yah. I put it out there in a loose guise of a YFT1 Challenge in a ‘will I, won’t I be able to manage?!’ kinda way, but obviously I was heading to t’other side of the world by absolute choice. Nightmare, I know. I gots ta tell ya I love life in Oz as much as I do in England. Potentially more, but we must keep that one quiet for now. But there’s not much that can top getting on a plane, on Christmas Day, with some of my best friends in the world, to see another of my best friends get married alongside some more best friends, then travelling up the East Coast, meeting new people and becoming friends, and experiencing amazing things like scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef…

Jengle Bells! Packing For Travel With Type 1

December 24, 2012
Mmm... Christmassss...

Really sorry about that title. I had an impromptu Christmas-themed pun-off with a friend (as you do) and that, quite rightly may I add, won. Thought it needed a bigger showcase. Annnyway… Happy Christmas Eve everybody! Hope your homes are full of chaos of the best kind, and pets and other creatures (like my brother here) in acceptable-at-this-time-of-year-only attire… The Christmas period is, in my eyes, pretty much a Get Out of Jail Free card for Type 1 good behaviour. All diabetes-related sense (well, the teeny tiny portion that I try to exercise) goes out the window as I faceplant as many cheese, meat and carb-based goods as possible. Life’s too short to be carb-counting amidst pulling crackers and laughing at Auntie Ethel’s attempt at charades (I have no Auntie called Ethel, by the way). HbA1what? I don’t care, tis the season to be jolly, and jolly greedy and that.…

A V.Huge Weekend…

August 24, 2010
Having a nightmare...

V Festival. It happened. With diabetes. Four girls, three days, two tents, oh-so-many beer,s lots of mud, and memories of a lifetime. My sides ACHE from laughing. I would go so far as to claim festival-going holds medicinal properties. I’m absolutely high on life from the filthy dirty experience, and I’ll be damned if my type 1 existence thinks it’s going to prevent me from the euphoria I experienced in the middle of a field that’s extremely nondescript for the remaining 362 days of the year. The main thing I’ve learnt since I started documenting my type 1 life is that diabetes needs a lot more planning than I ever gave it credit for. This doesn’t sit well with someone who lives their life on a very last minute basis. I like the unknown, I like doing spontaneous things and I like just going with the flow. This does not…

Dating + Diabetes = Dilemma?

August 3, 2010

Diabetes is not an obvious illness if you don’t want it to be. I’ve come to learn that you can do your injections every single day in front of someone and they just won’t notice. The places I find myself stabbing my limbs makes me chuckle sometimes… on the tube, at the bus stop, in a club (that did raise a few eyebrows). I’m the kinda girl that doesn’t care at all; diabetes is a common enough thing, and if you can’t take me with diabetes then there ain’t much chance of us getting along! But meeting new people – I’m talking about dating – and getting to the stage where you want to introduce them to this crazy world can be tricky. Confident as I am, whipping out my Novorapid across a candle-lit dinner table can kind of kill the mood if the poor innocent bloke isn’t expecting it.…
