A breakfast TV icon to kick off a new series of the Type 1 on 1 podcast? Oh go on then… 💪
Derrick Evans MBE, better known as Mr Motivator, is my first guest for season 3! His daughter Abigail’s type 1 diabetes diagnosis triggered a huge amount of upheaval in not only her life as a 19-year-old university student, but for her family too.Â
Mr Motivator chats openly about the mental as well as physical challenges of the condition and how it’s changed Abigail’s path in life. Unfalteringly hopeful without shying away from the tougher bits of life with type 1, it’s no surprise that Derrick brings the ultimate dose of motivation to this new series, as well as a huge amount of humility for the way that Abigail’s experiences have challenged his own perceptions of what it means to be healthy. Derrick also reflects on his own experiences of adversity and what his long-standing career has taught him. This episode feels quite broad in parts, but in the context of the last 18 months and what the world has been through it felt good to chat in this way.
