Making Space For Less

December 31, 2018

Social media (and London) loves to reinforce the idea that a crazy life is a good one. Who’s pushing the hardest, who’s having it all?
Calling bullshit, babes.

2018 has been filled with the most incredible experiences, travel and mad joy. But it’s also been filled with delicious periods of LESS, and it’s in those times that I feel like I’ve gained the most. Hanging out and cackling with my ultimate squeeze who gives me a daily dose of perspective as cancer keeps trying (and failing) to get the best of her. Making life-affirming new connections at the age of 31 because I’ve walked away from routine and said yes to a life that couldn’t look less like the life society tells me I’m ‘supposed’ to have rn. Stepping away from buying things, and putting more effort into collecting moments. It’s annoying when those clichés are true ain’t it?

Peeling away excess has given me and my type 1 diabetes decent space to breathe; to look and listen and make changes within when things threaten to get funky in my head. My HbA1c went up when I was working intensely, and came straight back down again when I then refused to rush straight into The Next Thing. It’s all fluid, it’s all ever-changing, it can all be a lot, but there are still ways to make space. The biggest highs have come from the simplest things: laughter, nature, love… and eggs, coffee and sunsets. Because I’m still pretty basic.

Happy, peaceful and healthy New Year everyone. Here’s to not feeling the need to keep up, and to not pretending to have your shit together for people who don’t matter xxx
