Nice to meet you, Dexcom G5 CGM

DON’T MIND ME just embracing my ultra bionic existence, hooked up to a brand new piece of robot of a sunny afternoon. 22 years into life with type 1 diabetes and I’ve not so much as sniffed a CGM. Until now.

Buh bye tons nasty finger pricks for the foreseeable, instead I’m just giving my phone a little glance on the regular to know exactly where my blood sugars are at and, much more importantly, where they are headed. Incred.

The Dexcom is sadly not something people can get their hands on easily via the NHS (hence me never having one until now), so I’m verrrry grateful to be strutting my stuff attached to one for a bit, after they reached out and suggested that it might help me handle my ridiculous little life a bit easier. Real talk: I still don’t know how I would feel about being wired up to this as well as an insulin pump long term, but three days in and I’m sashaying about like a woman who’s actually got her shit together for once, despite waving goodbye to both grace and dignity a long time ago. Checking my blood sugar on the tube? No problem. Handling cocktails on a date? Cute. Owning meetings that overrun? Sure. Making it through a gym class unscathed? You got it.

This geeky chicka is feeling pretty spesh rn thanks to my turbo tummy 💛 and also thanks to this Monki skirt which I’m very much in love with. Sometimes cool things come in sterile packaging and make you feel superhuman, sometimes they’re bits of fabric that make you feel like a sassy salsa dancer. And sometimes, it happens to be both.
