Blog, Type 1 Diabetes

Off On Adventures…

August 19, 2010

Right folks. I must bid you so long, farewell, adieu. It’s been a pleasure knowing you…
Don’t worry, I’m not fobbing off the blog after the grand total of less than a month. When I started writing this I very much thought that might happen but, you see, I appear to be too far in for that now. I’ve fallen head over heels for you all.
BUT… I am apologising now for the fact that I will be AWOL for a fair few days. It will be very quiet; there will be no tales of diabetes management, blonde stylee, until at least Tuesday. Very sad I know. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
For you see, you will all be aware that, whether we like it or not, we can’t just shrug off diabetes for the weekend. It’s not like getting a babysitter and offloading your bad pancreas for a few days. Diabetes has a tendency to invite itself to every occasion. The ‘it’ girl that you wish would go away – but is always loitering, stuck to your side because it makes them look cool (and let’s face it, we’re all pretty cool).
So mine is coming with me on an adventure. And as much as I wish it would sod off for just a little while, it does mean I should have a fresh batch of type 1 related JennyEnders incidents to regale you with on my return.
Because where I’m off is not particularly diabetes friendly, and it certainly isn’t low carb friendly. My tent is packed and the wet wipes are stashed. That’s right folks – I’m off to a festival. Camping, no less.
So while you’re missing me over the next few days (you will, won’t you?) I will be overcoming a series of ‘fun’ obstacles that mostly involve alcohol and the carbfest that is festival food. Chips, burgers… Stodge, in short. I predict I’m going to be in a bad place on Tuesday. Wish me luck, and I shall hopefully make it out the other side.

Have a great time Jen – looking forward to hearing about it when you get back! 🙂

I needn’t have felt guilty about taking time off of my own from reading your fab blog! (I was sans internet over the weekend too, but nothing as fun as a festival). Hope it was superduper! (Will now read about it on the next blog).

I went camping for 2 weeks in Ireland recently (when I was only on 2 injections), that darn uncool Diabetes friend would just not lay off and I no doubt didn’t help with the unhealthy camp eating and snacking style (i’m not gay by the way, but I love how that sentence appeared before me when I typed it).

Delayed response to your comments, to be brutally honest I’ve been utterly shit lately, many apologies.
From what I’ve heard the Emerald Isle could possibly be the hardest place in the world to resist temptation!? Good from you! Camp eating as opposed to straight eating?! Interesting concept. The camping, which I thought would be horrendous, was absolutely fine – it was when I got back that I went a bit too mental! I had to give myself a good talking to last week. All fine now though… hope you’re well x
