VIDEO: Inserting my first Dexcom G5 CGM Sensor

August 9, 2018
jen grieves with Dexcom G5 CGM

Don’t mind me, just casually hooking myself up to the Dexcom G5 CGM for the very first time in 22 years of living with type 1 diabetes, and trying to convince myself I have an ounce of a clue about what I’m doing. Some things never change eh?

In this video I chat through my feelings about trying a CGM and take you step-by-step through inserting the sensor and transmitter with the help of Dexcom’s Quick Start Guide and their online tutorials. It turned out to be pretty straightforward and already this thing is proving to be a rather magical piece of equipment in terms of managing my type 1 diabetes, which I entirely expected and will definitely talk more about soon. Thank you so much to Dexcom for allowing me to experience this awesome technology.

As always I’m definitely (DEFINITELY) not a healthcare professional, so please do seek advice from your diabetes care team or the Dexcom team if you’re unsure about sensor insertion. Behold, this idiot, mostly just delighted she didn’t mess this up.

How’s the CGM going? Still MDI & Libré for me. Omnipod chat with diabétologue in December after retinopathy check next week.
