Travelling with type 1 diabetes can be a daunting prospect, but with the right planning and preparation you can absolutely do it! Life with type 1 diabetes should not stop you from doing awesome and fulfilling things – and that includes seeing the world. I’ve embarked on six weeks of travel with type 1 diabetes – no, I can’t believe it either. Excitement aside, there was a lot to think about when it came preparing for this adventure with a chronic condition in tow, so in this video I chat through how I approached the trip, how I got everything together and what diabetes equipment I brought with me to ensure that I have a safe and wonderful time.

It’s entirely likely I’ve missed some easy and wonderful travelling hacks – do let me know!

    Hi,
Important comment. When preparing your for your trip ask your doctor and/or pharmacy if your insulin and other diabetes treatment products exist in the countries you are travelling to. Some products have a different name, some are simply not sold in some countries. Figure out a way to get them sent in case of emergency. There are also equivalent products from different brands.
I had the case for a 2 1/2 month trip where both my insulins were not available. So I prepared a reserve package that I left with a friend with shipping instructions.
All said, enjoy travelling, make it happen, go out there even with diabetes. I have many flight miles behind me and always enjoyed the challenge with my diabetes.
    Regards,
    Alexander
